In 2024, we continued contributing to the professional development of global health students, young researchers and professionals globally
Record PhD theses
A record number of 30 doctoral theses were defended, highlighting the continued success of ISGlobal’s doctoral training program, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University, which saw nearly 150 predoctoral researchers in 2024. This milestone reflects ISGlobal’s commitment to supporting the next generation of global health researchers.
New online courses
Our offer of online courses continued to grow in 2024, with the design of two new courses accredited by the University of Barcelona (Biostatistics for Global Health and Fundamentals of Qualitative Research in Global Health) and set to launch in 2025. Additionally, the course on Travel Medicine and Health in Mobile Populations was redesigned into a three-module format including a Pre-Travel Medicine and Consultation course available in both English and Spanish. These courses are part of ISGlobal’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible and high-quality training to professionals worldwide.
Capacity strengthening
Capacity strengthening remained a key priority in 2024, with the offering of two editions of the MERCSA course for evaluating capacity strengthening activities, developed in collaboration with TDR (Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases). One course was delivered in French at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal, and one in English at ISGlobal, Barcelona, for TDR Clinical Research Leadership fellows. Moreover, we continued to support training through the PAMAfrica Consortium, delivering two online courses on Science Management and Science Writing, and we coordinated a Science Management training in Namibia for the EDCTP-funded TESA III Network, in collaboration with CISM and the University of Namibia, further cementing ISGlobal’s role in capacity strengthening across Africa.
